Stones...in Flight

Let me first say, I have written this blog not once but twice and each time it has disappeared!! The first one was perfect. The second was good. This one is going to be half assed because I am pissed :)

Not to mention, this blog is long overdue!! I am sorry. Things have just been hectic.

Well, we did it!! Brian, the twins and I went to California for a short trip April 9-14. It was amazing… though every hour was planned to the tea. Trying to squeeze so much family into so few hours was hard but I think we accomplished it.

This was the first flight for the twins and we were sooooo worried and so were the other passengers. But to our amazement, and everyone elses’, they slept through the entire flight!! It was wonderful.

"What children need most are the essentials that grandparents provide in abundance. They give unconditional love, kindness, patience, humor, comfort, lessons in life. And, most importantly, cookies." -Rudolph Giuliani

But no where near as wonderful as the first time I saw my grandmothers look at the babies. Their faces could light a room. They didn’t have to wear their heart on their sleeves their eyes’ told the whole story. Love. Pride. Happiness. Hope.

Like my grandmothers, my mom was super excited to see Alex and Gray. She hadn’t seen them in person since Thanksgiving weekend when the babies were only a week old. She kissed and hugged them and squeezed them tight. She even taught Alex how to pucker up when people kiss her. It’s hilarious!! Alexandra and Grayson love their grandma. They love her curly, blonde hair and her funny voices. She is the best mom and will be the best grandma!! But I have a feeling she is going teach them that playing in mud is okay and eating ice cream with syrup is delicious.

My dad has never seen the twins in real life, he has only seen pictures. But the twins knew he was family as soon as he picked them up. He held Lexee LuLu like the little dolly she is and treated Gray like the little man that he is. It was a moment I will never forget.

"When you look at your life, the greatest happinesses are family happinesses." -Joyce Brothers

The whole trip was filled with love, laughter and happiness. My aunts, uncles and cousins were all great!!

My Uncle George and Aunt Penny threw a BBQ at their beautiful home for the whole family. Greek food ran rapid and so did baby talk. My cousin Nick and his wife, Mary, are pregnant with their first child so we were all exchanging advice, ideas, stories, etc. I am sooooo happy for them. Plus, now the twins will have someone their age to play with in the family :) On Saturday, my Uncle Athens and Aunty Ileana had us over to their gorgeous home. Nick is their son so this baby is going to be their first grandchild. Like Uncle George’s, babies were the subject of most conversations. That and scrapbooking (I am getting into scrapbooking). The togetherness our family has is priceless.

In fact, it had been 20 years since my Uncle Harold had held a baby but he held the twins at the same time like a pro!! (“Kristi” thumbs up Uncle Harold). My Aunty April and Grayson had a full on conversation. I wonder what he was telling her LOL And my cousin Tanya did a great job keeping the twins occupied while I got a chance to catch up with my cousins Ryan and Mikey and my Aunt Rene.

This whole experience was amazing. The only thing I wish I could have done was spent more time with everyone. I felt like I was rushed the whole time. And I wish I would have taken more video clips and had a day at the beach with the twins and Brian. But there’s always next time and there WILL be a NEXT time.
